    Overcoming this hurdle could not have been possible without trusting my team where I delegated this responsibility and empowered them. It made me realize that delegation isn’t merely about transferring tasks to someone else, it is about providing other team members the chance to flourish and help in the success of the business. Effective delegation was achieved by clearly outlining the expectations, providing the necessary resources, and being available for guidance whenever needed. And I also would regularly acknowledge and celebrate their successes, which helped build their confidence and buy-in.

    The impact was significant. My productivity improved, as I could focus on the things that my input adds the most value. Simultaneously, my team became more engaged and took initiative, because they felt trusted and empowered to take ownership of their work.

    For small business owners dealing with similar struggles, I would advise starting small. Find one or two things you can delegate and let your team prove itself.     One of the most surprising challenges I faced in running my business was being overwhelmed with the volume of things requiring my attention. It was hard to tell what actually needed my urgent attention versus what could be delegated or put off. It also left me feeling busy but not always productive, and caused some slow-downs on the most important goals.

    To cope with this, I started prioritizing with the Eisenhower Matrix. This framework, simple as it is powerful, allows me to classify all tasks according to four categories: urgent and important, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, and neither urgent nor important. So with this matrix in mind, I was able to generate some clarity around what I needed to focus on, what I could schedule for later, what I could delegate, and what I could stop doing altogether.

    A task that is both urgent and important could be addressing a client’s immediate concern, an example of an important but not urgent task would be long-term planning or strategizing. Tasks that are urgent but not important, such as dealing with routine inquiries, are frequently delegated to my team. The fourth category, neither urgent nor important, gets eliminated completely, like unnecessary meetings.

    My time and energy management were changed using this method. I’ve cut out stress, met deadlines better and made sure that key business goals are on track by focusing on what actually matters. It also empowered my team, because delegation gave them buy-in on second tasks and helped them learn and develop roles.

    For other small business owners struggling with some of the same issues I discovered that you can use the Eisenhower Matrix. It only takes a few minutes at the beginning of the day to categorize your tasks, and be intentional about making a choice to stick to your priorities.     Having a structured approach has helped me get back on the front foot with my schedule and the way that I run the business. It has also enabled me to develop a better balance between dealing with daily demands and working toward long-term goals.

    Some of these challenges I had not expected to face (a misunderstanding almost made me want to quit running my business) were managing my time while doing multiple things at once. This approach revolves around timed working blocks of 25 minutes, known as “Pomodoros,” with a 5-minute rest in between. After the fourth interval, I will take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes.     The Pomodoro Technique helped me break big tasks into smaller chunks. For example, if I found myself needing to write a six-page marketing plan, I broke that down into parts, such as research, content writing and analysis, and allocated each part to a series of intervals. Keeping my focus to 1 task at a time helped me reduce the overwhelm that often comes with large projects.

    Also the regular breaks helped me reset, both mentally and physically. During those short breaks, I would stretch or grab a quick snack, which kept my energy up all day. Those longer breaks allowed me to step back, assess the progress I made, and prep for the next phase of work.

    I think the easiest way to make these meals affordable is to have a solid meal prep schedule that minimizes the amounts of ingredients each week. When I do this, I usually pick 3-4 different types of meals and make them on the weekends so I don’t have to worry about cooking throughout the week. This also lowers the likelihood of eating out to save time.

    If something is non-perishable, consider buying it in bulk. Also, sticking to the basics may help you save money. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, eggs, and meat are some of my go-tos. I try to buy 1-2 fruits and 2-3 vegetables per week and mix them into multiple meals. I vary these week to week to make sure I am getting variety in the diet.

    Meat is one of the largest expenses I notice in my diet. Quality meat is important to me, so I am generally okay with the extra cost. However, an alternative to this could be to consider plant-based protein sources, which could potentially have cost savings. Some types of pasta are higher in protein as well as tofu, quinoa, edamame, peas, and more.

    I will note that I am not a nutritionist, so I can’t comment on whether or not this diet will get you all the nutrients you need in your daily life, so do your own research. While this works for me, I also supplement with a multivitamin and vary my diet quite a bit.

    Signature Sweet Treat for My Toddler

    As our son moved from infant to toddler to “three-nager,” we’ve evolved a signature sweet treat that both delivers the nutrition he needs and, well, has a lot of chocolate in it. Initially, that started off as “pudding” made of blended avocado, sweet potato, and chocolate powder; now, it is a full-on brownie consisting of black beans, sweet potato, and chocolate ganache.

    Smashing together some soft and smooth ingredients with chocolate and a bit of flour will invariably lead you to something edible pretty much every time; getting it to be indistinguishable from, though, a boxed brownie mix is a science that requires careful attention to the proportion of flour to potato and chocolate.

    Our eventual solution: a teeny bit more flour and a bit of cream cheese produced a sturdier AND fudgier end product. That’s the good news. The bad news: my wife and I tend to finish the tray before our kiddo does.

    Homemade Chicken Stew Filled with Love

    My signature dish has to be my homemade chicken soup. I love soup; it’s my favorite food, by far, and I love trying new recipes for different soups. However, my signature dish, the one that I’m known for when it comes to soup, is my chicken stew. I never follow a recipe, I just follow my heart and fill the stew (it’s less of a soup and more of a stew, really, as it’s very hearty) with my favorite vegetables like carrots, broccoli, celery, red potatoes, fresh green beans and whatever else strikes my veggie fancy at the time.

    The chicken is cooked separately in a nice blend of olive oil, red pepper flakes and garlic. I only use no-yolks noodles because they are thin and not overwhelming when mixed with all of the other goodness. Then, I put in a few shakes of some of my favorite spices like rosemary, oregano, basil and bay leaves. And, the final ingredient, well, that’s love. Because if you love what you’re cooking, you’ll love the feeling it gives you and others as you all enjoy it!

    To overcome these obstacles, I focused on strategic planning and collaboration. I gathered insights from our team to identify our strengths and areas for improvement. We then developed a comprehensive marketing strategy to promote our programs effectively.

    Additionally, I reached out to industry experts and potential partners to expand our network. This collaboration not only increased our credibility but also provided us with additional resources and support.

    We also embraced digital tools to enhance our training delivery. This shift allowed us to reach a global audience and offered flexibility for participants.

    Despite the initial doubts, we launched our expanded programs successfully. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with increased enrollment and engagement. This experience taught me the importance of resilience, teamwork, and innovative thinking.

    Achieving this goal against the odds reaffirmed my belief in our organization’s mission and our ability to adapt and thrive.
